Basic Garage Door Safety Guidelines
Posted by admin on Dec 12, 2011 in garage door safety | 7 commentsWhile garage doors are there to protect your home, they can also be hazard to your family. They are heavy, contain moving parts and run by electricity. These very things that make the garage door an efficient tool in shielding your car and interiors from the weather and potential intruders, can possibly cause injury to your loved ones and pets.
Proper Installation is Key
When you have invested a considerable amount for your garage door, never cut corners by allowing an amateur to put it in. You may need to have torsion springs adjusted for smoother operations or the auto-reverse function tested. Leaving these on the hands of an inexperienced technician could compromise your safety.
A Good Example
Teaching your kids the proper use of garage door openers, including the potential hazards and injuries that can happen is a must. A garage door and an opener, after all, are not toys. It is critical that you stress this part to them. If you follow your own safety rules first and be a role model, you are more likely to see your children cooperate. Never wait for an accident to happen before you take action.
