Cheap Entry Doors Issues

A homeowner can purchase entry doors off the internet these days. The prices are even competitive those being sold at brick-and-mortar stores. The risk of going for the less reputable vendor, however, is often not worth taking. Not only could you end up with a poor quality product, they could carry the following baggage as well:

  • Lock Problems

When it comes to garage doors and front doors, one of your main concerns should be their locking systems. You will need reliable locks that cannot be easily picked or damaged so you can keep your family and belongings safe.

  • Faulty Weatherstripping

If the weatherstripping comes with the installation of your door, you will also be able to tell the difference between a trustworthy contractor and those that are not. In exchange for the lower priced door, you may get a higher energy bill each month. Worse, gaps and small openings around the edges can invite bugs and small insects into your home.

  •  Creaks and Other Noises

While noisy hinges can be remedied by a few drops of oil, they can be a sign of a haphazard installation job. If your door does not swing easily, the measurements could also be off and you will end up scratching the jamb in the long run.

Good quality garage door openers will serve your home for years. True, every now and then,  you may have to call a garage door technician to look into a squeak or a lag in the response. Most of the time, however, your opener is this silent and reliable workhorse that operates the door for you.

Family Safety Comes First

When time comes for your opener to be replaced, there will be indicators that you ought not ignore. Otherwise, you will be putting your family at risk for injury. An opener need not be faulty or non-working for you to start shopping for a new one. Older models that are not equipped with the reverse-closing mechanism that newer garage doors have is a hazard to your young kids. Non-coded openers will also make your home vulnerable to break-ins since this type of security has long been replaced by programmable code entry or some other keyless form of entry. The latter will make your garage door more secure and difficult to hack. Lastly, an opener that has an emergency power source for those unexpected blackouts, will enable you to enter your home hassle-free.

Custom Garage DoorsEntry doors are an integral part of a home’s facade. If you are planning to sell your house soon, your front door will be one of the determining factors that can shape a potential buyer’s interest in putting in an offer.

1. They give homes that finishing touch.

When shopping for entry door systems, a homeowner is often swayed first by the design. Whether you are trying to tie together a sprawling Mediterranean home or a Spanish colonial, the perfect door design is out there waiting for you. It will draw that line between a smile and a frown when you walk through it after a long day at work.

2. Climate is an issue.

Choosing an entry door that is flimsy or lacking in quality will not protect your family from the rough temperatures outside. If your area is frequented by hail or strong winds, you will more likely be thinking twice about picking a door solely based on its inexpensive price tag.

3. Family comes first.

Break-ins happen when you least expect it. A sturdy, well-made entry door will not only be a deterrent to burglars, they will continue being one for years to come. Your family deserves nothing less than that.

The process of door replacement can be confusing especially if you do not have any background in doing this procedure yourself. There are many reasons why people change their front doors.

As many experts say, the front door is the main focal point of the house exterior and changing it can add curb appeal to your property.

You can also change the front door if you are tired of the old one; you found a much eco- friendly door material; or your old one has been damaged.

The process of replacing entry doors is fairly simple. It only gets complicated when you would change the door jamb too. But if you just want to change the door, then it shouldn’t be a problem.

  • Before removing the old door, make sure that you mark the spot in the frame where the bottom of the door ends. This will serve as your guide on how you will position the new door once installed. Have someone hold the door as you unhinge all the screws and connections. Slide the door away carefully.
  • It is always better to purchase a new door ahead of time before removing the old one. Before buying, measure the old door so that the new door can fit easily. Remember, you are only replacing the door and not the door jamb.
  • Once the new door is ready, position it carefully into the frame. Take note of the mark that you placed in the bottom. Make sure that the bottom of the door is in line with the mark. You can use shims or a flat wood to level the door with the mark and so that you won’t keep on holding the door up.
  • Mark the spots at the door where the screws should be. You can do so by matching it with the hinges that are attached to the frame. Lay the door back to the ground. Remove the hinges from your old door and attach them to the new one.
  • Put the door back up and connect the hinges together. Tighten all screws to secure the door correctly. A similar process can be done in all other exterior doors as long as the frame will not be changed.

Whether you are replacing your door opener because you bought a newer model or your old one is already not repairable, changing the mechanism is quite a challenging process. The difficulty here is caused by the pre-installation of the track.

If you follow the steps that the manufacturer of the door opener provided, then you should be good to go.

  1. The very first thing to do is to remove the old door opener. Make sure you do this carefully so that the main mechanisms of the door will not be damaged. 2. Mark the high point of the door. Homeowners will be able to do this by raising their residential garage doors and looking at the highest spot. Place a piece of wood in the area. But if your old opener already has a support piece placed, then there will be no need to add another one.
  3. Grab the rail’s front end and attach it to the door in the spot where you marked as the center of the garage door. The rails must be assembled carefully based on the instructions of the manufacturer. Once the rails are placed, bring down the garage door.
  4. Placed the motor assembly in the ceiling but make sure that the rails are in a horizontal orientation before fastening it. You can slightly lift the door to make sure that the rails are aligned.
  5. Plug the door opener and set the remote control. You should also set the motion sensors.
  6. Try opening the garage door using the remote control and check if the door opens smoothly.
